The origin of the name Young

Young (Yonge / Le Yonge) is an ancient English descriptive surname derived from Old English geong (meaning "young" or "the younger," historically used to distinguish a son from his father of the same personal name, similar to French Jeune or Welsh Vaughan). Establishing premier landed seats across Shropshire (Yonge of Caynton), Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Devon, and Yorkshire during the early feudal era, the House of Young rose to high standing as baronets, High Sheriffs, and Parliamentarians. Codified early in feudal records, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls (Hugh le Yonge).

The symbolism of the Young coat of arms

Visually pure and structured, the English Young coat of arms features an argent / silver or white shield charged with three black piles or wedges issuing from the top (chief) pointing down toward the base, each charged with a golden annulet or ring in chief. The three golden annulets denote fidelity, continuous family unity, and sacred oaths held across generations.
