The origin of the name Weber
Weber is an ancient German, Swiss, and Austrian occupational surname derived from German Weber (meaning "weaver" or "crafter of fine textiles"). Originating during the early Middle Ages across Bavaria, Saxony, the Rhineland, and Switzerland, families bearing the Weber name held patrician standing in merchant guilds, municipal councils, and civic courts. Expanding across Europe and the Americas, the House of Weber produced world-famous composers, sociologists, and operatic artists.
The symbolism of the Weber coat of arms
Visually pure and celestial, the Weber coat of arms features a deep blue shield charged with three golden five-pointed stars or mullets (two in chief, one in base). In classical European heraldry, the deep blue field symbolises loyalty, truth, and faith, while the three golden five-pointed stars denote divine illumination, celestial guidance, high intellect, and noble family alignment across generations. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a radiant golden star set between a pair of golden wings displayed, symbolising spiritual elevation, light, and soaring mind. Below, the motto scroll displays Gott segne uns, translating from German to "God bless us." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was documented in German and Swiss patrician armorial registers and catalogued in J.B. Rietstap’s Armorial Général.
