The origin of the name Weaver
Weaver (Le Weaver / Wever) is an ancient English occupational and topographic surname derived from Middle English wever (meaning "a master weaver of cloth") as well as stemming from Weaver Hall along the River Weaver in Cheshire. Establishing premier landed seats at Weaverham in Cheshire and across Herefordshire, the House of Weaver produced High Sheriffs, Parliamentarians, and military officers. Codified early in feudal records, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls (John le Wever).
The symbolism of the Weaver coat of arms
Visually rich and agricultural, the Weaver coat of arms features a radiant golden shield charged with a broad central deep blue horizontal band (fess azure) bordered by fine red lines, bearing two golden wheat sheaves or garbs. In classical heraldry, the gold field symbolises generosity, elevation of mind, and royal favor, while the deep blue horizontal band represents loyalty, truth, faith, and a knightly sash of honor. The two golden wheat sheaves serve as famous emblems of bountiful harvest, agricultural abundance, sustenance, and generous hospitality across generations. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a standing antelope, symbolising swift alertness, forest lordship, and harmony. Below, the motto scroll displays Esto fidelis, translating to "Be faithful." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Cheshire and catalogued in Burke's Landed Gentry.
