The origin of the name Urban
Urban is an ancient Latin personal name and surname derived from Latin Urbanus (meaning "city dweller," "refined," or "courteous"). Popularised across Central Europe, Germany, Poland, and Hungary following early Christian history and Saint Urban, the House of Urban established influential landed seats and patrician lordships. Members served as civic magistrates, prelates, and military leaders. Codified early in medieval European records, the family held respected standing across multiple continental armorials.
The symbolism of the Urban coat of arms
Visually pure and celestial, the Urban coat of arms features a radiant golden shield charged with a broad deep blue diagonal band (bend) bearing three golden six-pointed stars (mullets). In classical European heraldry, the gold field symbolises generosity, elevation of mind, and royal favor, while the deep blue diagonal bend represents a knightly sash of honor, loyalty, truth, and faith.
