The origin of the name Torres
Torres (de Torres) is an ancient Spanish and Portuguese grandee noble surname derived from Spanish and Portuguese torres (meaning "towers" or "fortresses," referring to an ancestor residing near royal castle towers or the feudal manor of Torres in Old Castile). Originating during the 8th century, the House of Torres rose to supreme aristocracy as Counts of Villardompardo, Marquis of Torres, and Grandees of Spain. Dominating Iberian history, members served as Viceroys of Peru, High Constables of Castile, and conquistadors across the Americas.
The symbolism of the Torres coat of arms
Visually bold and fortress-inspired, the Torres coat of arms features a red shield charged with five golden triple-towered castles or towers arranged in saltire (X-shape: 2-1-2). In Iberian heraldry, the red field symbolises martial courage, fortitude, and sacrifice on the field of battle.
