Eminently suited for a proper brew! Whether it’s a gift to mark a milestone birthday, a new home, or Christmas morning — here’s an artwork with history in your hands.

The origin of the name Snyder

Snyder is the primary historical spelling variant of the ancient German, Austrian, and Dutch occupational surname Schneider (Schneider / Snijder, meaning "tailor," "cutter," or "crafter of fine garments"). Widespread across Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and Germany, families bearing the Snyder spelling established major landed estates, producing state governors, military generals, and industrial leaders.

The symbolism of the Snyder coat of arms

Sharing the exact ancestral bearings of the noble Schneider lineage, the Snyder coat of arms features a vibrant green shield charged with a central golden chalice or goblet. In classical European heraldry, the green field symbolises hope, vitality, growth, and deep roots in ancestral soil. The central golden chalice represents sacred trust, manorial hospitality, communion, spiritual devotion, and generosity held in honor across generations. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a striking plume of green and gold feathers, symbolising noble elevation and light. The formal recognition of this coat of arms was documented in European patrician armorial registers and catalogued in J.B. Rietstap’s Armorial Général.

Historical figures

Lady Anna Snyder (17th Century): Recorded gentlewoman and benefactor in European land charters.
