Origin of the Neal Name

The surname Neal originates from the Irish Ó Néill, meaning “descendant of Niall.” It is one of the oldest hereditary surnames in Ireland, rooted deeply in the influential Uí Néill dynasty that shaped much of Irish history over centuries.

The name honours Niall of the Nine Hostages, a semi-legendary High King of Ireland believed to have lived during the 4th or 5th century.
