The origin of the name Rogers
Rogers is an illustrious ancient English, Welsh, and Scottish patronymic surname meaning "son of Roger" ("famous spearman"). Establishing premier landed seats across Shropshire (Home of Bryan), Denbighshire, Dorset, and Devon, the House of Rogers produced High Sheriffs, Parliamentarians, early Protestant martyrs, and pioneering explorers. Codified early in feudal administrative rolls, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls (Adam Rogers).
The symbolism of the Rogers coat of arms
Sharing the exact ancestral armorial bearings of the noble Rodgers lineage, the Rogers coat of arms features an argent / silver or white shield charged with a broad black chevron bearing a golden trefoil or cross pattee, set between three black walking stags or harts (harts passant). In classical heraldry, the silver field symbolises sincerity, peace, and unblemished judicial purity, while the black chevron represents fortress defense, architectural integrity, and constancy under trial. The golden trefoil denotes spiritual grace, while the three black walking stags signify swift alertness, forest lordship, harmony, and noble standing. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a striking plume of black and silver feathers, symbolising noble elevation and light. Below, the motto scroll displays Omnia vincit amor, translating to "Love conquers all." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Shropshire and catalogued in Burke's Peerage.
