Rogers is an ancient Scottish, Ulster-Scots, and northern English patronymic surname meaning "son of Roger" (derived from Germanic Hrod-ger, composed of hrod, meaning "fame," and ger, meaning "spear"—thus "famous spearman"). Establishing ancestral seats in Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, and across Ulster (Counties Antrim and Down), the family held respected standing as landholders, magistrates, and military officers. Codified early in Scottish administrative rolls, the name appears in early medieval registers.
