Price is an illustrious ancient Welsh patronymic surname derived from Ap Rhys (meaning "son of Rhys," from rhys, meaning "fiery zeal," "enthusiasm," or "reigning prince"). Tracing royal descent from Rhys ap Tewdwr, 11th-century King of Deheubarth, the House of Price established premier landed seats at Brecon, Flintshire, and Denbighshire. Ruling as High Sheriffs, Parliamentarians, and legal scholars, members of the family exerted major influence across Wales and England. Codified early, the name appears in 16th-century Welsh heraldic visitations.
