Whether it’s a gift to celebrate a milestone birthday, a wedding or a housewarming—this piece is an instant heirloom.

The origin of the name Petersen

Petersen is an ancient Scandinavian and North German patronymic surname meaning "son of Peter" (derived from Petros, meaning "rock"). Widespread across Denmark, Norway, Schleswig-Holstein, and northern Germany, the lineage produced patrician merchants, naval officers, and civic magistrates. Expanding across Northern Europe and North America during the 18th and 19th centuries, the House of Petersen established deep roots in international commerce and science.

The symbolism of the Petersen coat of arms

Visually pure and geometric, the Petersen coat of arms features a shield divided per chevron in deep blue and argent / silver or white (a silver triangular mountain/wedge issuing from base into a blue field). In classical heraldry, the deep blue field symbolises loyalty, truth, and unyielding faith, while the silver lower section/mountain represents unblemished judicial purity, a firm rock foundation, and steadfast strength under trial. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays an upright steel key, serving as an ancient emblem of guardianship, trust, mastery of knowledge, and opening doors of opportunity for future generations. The formal recognition of this coat of arms was documented in Nordic and North German patrician registers and catalogued in J.B. Rietstap’s Armorial Général.
