The origin of the name Parker

Parker is an ancient Anglo-Norman occupational surname derived from Old French parquer (an official keeper, ranger, or supervisor of royal parks and lordly forests). Establishing premier landed seats across Lancashire (Browsholme Hall), Devon, and Staffordshire (Earls of Macclesfield), the House of Parker produced Lord High Chancellors, Archbishops of Canterbury, and High Sheriffs. Codified early in feudal records, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Norfolk (Adam le Parker).

The symbolism of the Parker coat of arms

Commanding and watchful, the Parker coat of arms features a red shield charged with a broad golden engrailed chevron set between three golden leopard's or cat's heads caboshed (facing forward: two in chief, one in base). In classical heraldry, the red field symbolises martial courage and sacrifice, while the golden engrailed chevron represents fortress defense, architectural honor, and knightly sashes. The three golden leopard heads denote acute watchfulness, fierce agility, stealth, and unyielding protection of family lands. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a plume of red and gold feathers, symbolising noble elevation. Below, the motto scroll displays Fideli certa merces, translating to "To the faithful, reward is sure." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Lancashire and catalogued in Burke's Peerage.
