The origin of the name Page

Page (Le Page) is an ancient Anglo-Norman status and occupational surname derived from Old French page (a young noble officer or attendant in a royal or lordly household undergoing knightly training). Introduced to England during the 1066 Norman Conquest, families bearing the Page name established prominent manorial seats across Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, and Yorkshire. Members of the House of Page served as High Sheriffs, Parliamentarians, and colonial governors. Codified early in feudal records, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Cambridgeshire (John le Page).

The symbolism of the Page coat of arms

Visually pure and chivalric, the Page coat of arms features a red shield charged with an argent / silver or white chevron bearing three black pheons or broad arrowheads pointed downward, set between three silver birds or doves. In classical heraldry, the red field symbolises martial courage and sacrifice, while the silver chevron represents fortress protection and architectural integrity. The three black pheons signify archer's precision, sharp intellect, and martial readiness, while the three silver birds denote peaceful ascension, swiftness, and good tidings. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a red griffin erased, symbolising acute vigilance, high intellect, and guardian protection. Below, the motto scroll displays Honneur pour objet, translating from French to "Honor for objective." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Kent and catalogued in Burke's Peerage.

Lady Mary Page (1678–1728): English noblewoman and benefactor recorded in Greenwich estate rolls.
