The name Neal (or Neale) is of Anglo-Norman origin, developing from the medieval name Nigel, introduced to England during the Norman Conquest of 1066. This specific coat of arms was officially registered in 1617 within the Funeral Entries of Ulster’s Office for the family of William Neale, an English gentleman whose daughter married Edward Kenny. This record documents the migration of English gentry to Ireland during the late Tudor and early Stuart periods, establishing a lineage entirely distinct from the native Gaelic O'Neill clans of Ulster. Notable historical figures associated with this English-derived Neale lineage include regional landholders, government officials, and members of parliament established across English counties such as Hampshire, Bedfordshire, and Wiltshire.
