The origin of the name Muller
Muller (Müller) is an ancient Germanic, Swiss, and Dutch occupational surname derived from Middle High German müller or múlner (meaning "miller" or "keeper of a grain mill"). Essential to feudal agricultural manors and monastic estates throughout Central Europe, master millers held respected civic standing. The House of Müller produced patrician magistrates, scholars, and landholders across Switzerland (Zurich and Bern), Bavaria, and the Rhineland. Codified early in municipal charters, the name appears in 1260 Swiss rolls (Johannes Müller).
