Originating as a Dalcassian sept in County Clare (specifically near Tulla), the name is strongly associated with Munster, particularly counties Clare, Limerick, and Tipperar. The bow and quiver arms are especially associated with the Clare O’Molony family of Kiltannon in County Clare, a line with deep roots in the Barony of Tulla and the wider Thomond region. That tradition is often linked with the historic Dál gCais world of north Munster, where hereditary families served as local leaders, churchmen, and military supporters of the O’Brien kings.
