Whether it’s a gift to celebrate a milestone birthday, a wedding or a housewarming—this piece is an instant heirloom.

The origin of the name Marshall

Marshall is an ancient Anglo-Norman status and occupational surname derived from Old French maréchal (originally meaning "horse-servant," evolving into "master of the horse" and "commander of royal armies"). The House of Marshall rose to supreme feudal aristocracy with William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1146–1219), revered as "the Greatest Knight that ever lived," who served as Regent of England and Protector of the Realm. Establishing estates across England, Scotland, and Ireland, the lineage produced High Constables, judges, and statesmen.

The symbolism of the Marshall coat of arms

Visually pure and symbolic, the Marshall coat of arms features an argent / silver or white shield charged with a broad deep blue saltire (X-shaped cross) set between three green leaves (in chief and flanks) and a black heart in base. In classical heraldry, the silver field symbolises sincerity and peace, while the deep blue saltire denotes cross-road resolution, chivalry, and unyielding defense of domain. The three green leaves represent vitality, flourishing growth, and deep roots in ancestral soil, while the black heart in base signifies sincerity, deep wisdom, and steadfast fidelity under trial. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a white and blue bird (dove) holding a green olive branch in its beak, symbolising peaceful victory, divine tidings, and hope. Below, the motto scroll displays Semper virescit virtus, translating to "Virtue ever flourishes." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Yorkshire and catalogued in Burke's Peerage.
