The origin of the name LeBlanc

LeBlanc (Leblanc) is an ancient French and Acadian descriptive surname derived from le blanc (meaning "the white," originally given to an ancestor with fair hair or a pale complexion). Originating during the Middle Ages across Normandy, Brittany, and Île-de-France, the House of LeBlanc established noble seats across northern France. In 1645, Daniel LeBlanc arrived in Port-Royal, Acadia (Nova Scotia), becoming the founding patriarch of one of the most prominent Acadian families in North American history.

The symbolism of the LeBlanc coat of arms

Commanding and noble, the LeBlanc coat of arms features a deep blue shield charged with a broad golden chevron set between three argent / silver or white lions rampant (two in chief, one in base). In classical French heraldry, the deep blue field symbolises loyalty, truth, and faith, while the golden chevron represents architectural strength and knightly sashes of honor. The three silver lions rampant denote supreme courage, sincerity, and unblemished noble guardianship of family lands. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a golden eagle displayed with spread wings, symbolising keen vision, high intellect, and elevated status. Below, the motto scroll displays Sans tache, translating from French to "Without stain." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was documented in French armorial registers and catalogued in J.B.
