The origin of the name Lacy
Lacy is the primary historical spelling variant of the noble Anglo-Norman surname Lacey (de Lacy). Originating in Lassy, Normandy, the family established great medieval lordships across Yorkshire and Ireland following the Norman Conquest. Holding the Barony of Pontefract and the Palatinate Lordship of Meath, members of the House of Lacy served as Lords Justiciar of Ireland, High Constables of England, and military commanders throughout Western Europe.

Sharing the exact ancestral bearings of the noble de Lacy lineage, the Lacy coat of arms features a radiant golden shield charged with a central purple lion rampant. In heraldry, the golden field denotes generosity and high honor, while the purple lion rampant symbolises sovereign bravery, princely dignity, and martial valour. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a golden eagle displayed with spread wings, representing high vision, intellect, and guardian protection. Below, the motto scroll displays Meritas augentur honores, translating to "Honors are increased by merit."
