The surname Lacy (also seen as de Lacy or Lacey) originates from Norman French roots, specifically tracing back to the village of Lassy in Normandy, France. Following the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, the name was introduced to Britain by the followers of William the Conqueror, including the influential noble family led by Ilbert de Lacy. A notable member, Hugh de Lacy, arrived in Ireland around 1172 and was granted the Lordship of Meath by Henry II of England, positioning him among the most powerful Norman lords in Ireland during that era.
