The surname Jiménez is patronymic in origin, developing during the early Middle Ages to identify the "son of Jimeno" (or Ximeno). The name stems from the ancient pre-Roman Iberian and Basque root Semeno, translating historically to "little son." As Christian kingdoms expanded, independent branches arose across northern Spain's mountain valleys. From early ancestral roots in Navarre, Aragon, and the Basque Country, descendants migrated southward, establishing recognized lines in La Rioja, Castile, and Valencia.

The symbolism of the three wolves

This historic coat of arms features a silver shield displaying three black wolves in a walking stance (passant) with red tongues (lampasado). In Iberian heraldry, silver signifies peace and sincerity, while black denotes strength and constancy.

Rather than a mere predator, early Iberian knights revered the wolf as a symbol of the elite warrior—representing tactical cunning, vigilance, and unyielding loyalty to the clan.
