The origin of the name Healy

Healy (O'Healy) is an ancient Gaelic Irish surname derived from Ó hÉalaighthe (originating in Munster, centered in Cork and Kerry) and Ó hÉidhin (in Connacht, centered in Sligo). Meaning "ingenious" or "artistic," the Ó hÉalaighthe sept were hereditary lords of Donoughmore in County Cork, holding extensive medieval manors along the River Churn. Recorded in early Irish ecclesiastical and land surveys, the family produced distinguished scholars, clerics, and chieftains.

The symbolism of the Healy coat of arms

Commanding and watchful, the Healy coat of arms features a deep blue shield charged with three upright argent / silver or white boars' heads erased, arranged vertically in pale. In classical heraldry, the deep blue shield symbolises loyalty, truth, and faith, while the three silver boars' heads represent fierce bravery, ancient hospitality, and unyielding defense of clan lands. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a golden lion guardant standing upon a cap of maintenance, representing noble authority and heroic courage. Below, the motto scroll displays Sapiens dominabitur astris, translating to "The wise man will rule the stars." The formal recognition of this coat of arms was registered in the Ulster Office of Arms and documented in Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland.
