Origin of the Griffin name
The surname Griffin has diverse Celtic and British origins. In Wales, it is the anglicized form of the ancient princely name Gruffudd (or Griffith), derived from elements meaning "strong lord" or "prince." In Ireland, it is frequently an anglicization of the Gaelic Ó Gríobhtha, which translates directly to "descendant of the griffin-like one," pointing to a fearsome warrior ancestor.
Symbolism of the Griffin Coat of Arms
