The origin of the name Fisher

Fisher is an ancient English and Scottish occupational surname derived from Old English fiscere ("fisherman"). Establishing early manorial seats across Yorkshire, Warwickshire, and the Scottish Lowlands following the 1066 Norman Conquest, families holding the Fisher name played key roles in agricultural administration and civic governance. Codified early in feudal rolls, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Cambridgeshire (Robert le Fischer).

The symbolism of the Fisher coat of arms

Commanding and regal, the Fisher coat of arms features a red field with an indented golden upper section (chief), charged with three golden lions rampant. In heraldry, the red field symbolises martial courage and fortitude, while the indented golden chief denotes architectural defense and high honor. The three golden lions represent supreme leadership, heroic bravery, and noble service. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a golden eagle displayed with spread wings. Below, the motto scroll displays Respice finem, translating to "Consider the end." The formal recognition of this armorial design was recorded in the Heralds' Visitations of Warwickshire and catalogued in Burke's General Armory.
