While the surname Evans originally derives from Great Britain, prominent and historically distinct branches established deep, centuries-old seats across Ireland beginning in the late 16th and 17th centuries. Settling primarily in Munster and Leinster, the family acquired major landed estates at Ash Hill Towers in County Limerick, Portrane House in County Dublin, and across Kilkenny and Cork.
