Eminently suited for a proper brew! Whether it’s a gift to mark a milestone birthday, a new home, or Christmas morning — here’s an artwork with history in your hands.

The origin of the name Dominguez

Dominguez (Domínguez) is an ancient Spanish patronymic noble surname meaning "son of Domingo" (derived from the Latin Dominicus, meaning "belonging to the Lord"). Deeply established in Castile, Galicia, Aragon, and Andalusia during the Reconquista, the House of Domínguez held extensive feudal manors, contributed distinguished military commanders to royal armies, and produced key administrators during transatlantic expansion.

The symbolism of the Dominguez coat of arms

Visually commanding, the Dominguez coat of arms features a deep blue inner shield charged with a central golden five-pointed star (mullet). The shield is enclosed within a broad red border (bordure) charged with eight golden saltire crosses. In Iberian heraldry, the blue shield and golden star symbolise loyalty, divine illumination, and high aspiration. The red border and golden saltire crosses represent knightly courage, fortitude, and unyielding faith under trial. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays blue and red feather plumes. Recorded in the Nobiliario Español and J.B. Rietstap’s Armorial Général.

Historical figures

Pero Domínguez (13th Century): Castilian knight who served King Alfonso X during the Reconquista.
Inés Domínguez de Benaiges (14th Century): Spanish noblewoman and founder of a hospital in Aragon.
Francisco Domínguez (16th Century): Spanish navigator and royal cartographer in New Spain.
