The origin of the name Delgado
Delgado is a distinguished surname of Spanish origin, derived from the adjective delgado (from the Latin delicatus, originally meaning "slender," "valiant," or "agile in battle"). First recorded in Santander and the mountains of Santander in northern Spain, early knights of Delgado earned high acclaim during the Reconquista, establishing ancestral seats across Santander, Seville, and the Canary Islands.
The symbolism of the Delgado coat of arms
The coat of arms features an inner azure (blue) shield charged with seven golden or seven-pointed stars, set within an argent (silver) field surrounded by eight golden cauldrons (pucheros). In heraldry, azure signifies loyalty and truth, argent denotes purity, and or represents generosity and intellect.
The golden cauldrons symbolize grand feudal hospitality, wealth, and command, while the seven-pointed stars represent celestial guidance, nobility, and high aspiration.
