Whether it’s a gift to celebrate a milestone birthday, a wedding or a housewarming—this piece is an instant heirloom.

The origin of the name Dean

Dean (Deane) is an ancient English topographic and official surname derived from Old English dene (meaning "valley") or Middle English dene (from Latin decanus, an ecclesiastical dean or manager). Families holding this surname established early seats in Gloucestershire, Hampshire, and Yorkshire. Codified in early administrative rolls, the name appears in the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Devon (William de la Dene).

The symbolism of the Dean coat of arms

Visually striking, the Dean coat of arms features a deep blue shield charged with three golden wings conjoined. In classical heraldry, the deep blue shield represents truth, loyalty, and devotion to duty, while the three golden wings symbolise swiftness, high aspiration, and elevation of mind. Positioned above the shield, the crest features a blue lion rampant. Below, the motto scroll displays Forti et fideli nihil difficile, translating to "To the brave and faithful, nothing is difficult." Documented in Burke's General Armory (1884).
