The origin of the name DeRoiste

DeRoiste (de Róiste) is the Gaelicized form of the Norman surname Roche or Roach, originating from de la Roche ("of the rock"). Settling in Ireland during the 12th-century invasion, the family founded major seats in Munster and Leinster, most notably as the Barons of Fermoy in County Cork. Over generations, the line became fully integrated into Gaelic culture, adopting the Irish form de Róiste.
