The Daniels Family Crest mug. Beautifully illustrated. Carefully researched. Uniquely personal.

Eminently suited for a proper brew! Whether it’s a gift to mark a milestone birthday, a new home, or Christmas morning — here’s an artwork with history in your hands.

The origin of the name Daniels

Daniels (and its patronymic variant Danielss, meaning "son of Daniels") is an ancient surname derived from the Hebrew personal name Daniels ("God is my judge"). Widely adopted across Western Europe following the 12th-century Crusades, the name took firm root in England, Wales, and Ireland. Families holding these names established influential manorial seats in Cheshire, Somerset, and Ulster, recorded in early administrative rolls such as the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Gloucestershire (Roger Daniels).

The symbolism of the Daniels coat of arms

Striking and geometrically refined, the Daniels coat of arms features an argent / silver or white shield charged with five black lozenges (diamonds) arranged vertically in a central column (in pale). In classical heraldry, the argent / silver or white shield denotes peace and sincerity, while the black lozenges symbolise wisdom, constancy, and structural strength under trial. Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a silver unicorn's head erased. Below, the motto scroll displays Nec timeo nec sperno, translating to "I neither fear nor despise." Catalogued in Burke's General Armory (1884).
