The origin of the name Curry

Curry (and its primary spelling variant Curry) is a historic surname of dual Scottish locational and Gaelic Irish origin. In Scotland, it derives from the barony of Curry in Midlothian (from Gaelic currach, meaning "wet meadow" or "marsh"). In Ireland, it serves as the Anglicised form of Ó Comhraidhe (meaning "descendant of Comhraidhe"). Prominent families holding these names established influential seats in Dumfriesshire, Ayrshire, Munster, and Ulster, recorded in the 1296 Ragman Rolls of Scotland (Walter de Curry) and early Irish annals.
