The origin of the name Cory
Cory is an ancient English topographic and personal surname derived from the Old Norse Kári (meaning "curl" or "obstacle") or from the Old French curi. Originating in Cornwall, Devon, and Norfolk prior to the 1066 Norman Conquest, families holding these manorial lands adopted Cory as a hereditary surname throughout the 12th and 13th centuries. Early administrative records include the 1273 Hundred Rolls of Norfolk (Walter Cory) and medieval Devonshire land surveys.
The symbolism of the Cory coat of arms
Visually striking, the Cory coat of arms features a black shield charged with a golden chevron bearing three red stars (mullets/rosettes), set between three golden griffin or eagle heads erased.
