The origin of the name Considine
Considine is an ancient Gaelic Irish surname derived from Mac Consaidín, a patronymic form of Constantine. The sept descended directly from Consaidín O'Brien, Bishop of Killaloe (a grandson of King Diarmait O'Brien of Thomond). Establishing their primary ancestral seat in County Clare, the Considines served as chieftains, church leaders, and prominent landholders in Munster. Recorded in early Gaelic land surveys and 17th-century Clare inquisitions.
The symbolism of the Considine coat of arms
Visually striking, the Considine coat of arms features a vertically divided shield (per pale) in black and red, charged with three walking lions (passant) in horizontal alignment, counterchanged in gold and argent / silver or white. In classical heraldry, the black and red division symbolises wisdom, constancy, and martial valour. The three lions represent noble vigilance, high courage, and ancestral leadership.
