The origin of the name Collins
Collins is a historic surname of dual English patronymic and Gaelic Irish origin. In England, it means "son of Colin" (a diminutive of Nicholas). In Ireland, it is the primary Anglicised form of Ó Coileáin, derived from coileán (meaning "young hound" or "valiant pup"). The Ó Coileáin sept held ancient chieftainships in Claonghlas (County Limerick) before relocating to West Cork, where they became prominent clan leaders. Recorded extensively in medieval Irish annals and British administrative rolls.

Positioned above the shield, the crest displays a pelican with drops of blood (a pelican in her piety), an ancient emblem of sacrifice, devotion, and family protection.
