The origin of the name Côté

Côté (Cote) is an ancient French topographic surname derived from côte, meaning "hillside," "slope," or "coastline." Originating in Normandy, Brittany, and Île-de-France during the Middle Ages, the surname was assumed by families residing near prominent coastal hills or manorial slopes. In the 17th century, the family established celebrated pioneer roots in New France (Quebec, Canada), becoming one of the most prominent founding lineages in French North America.

The symbolism of the Côté coat of arms

Visually dynamic, the Côté coat of arms features a vibrant red field overlaid with an argent / silver or white lattice or interlaced grid pattern (fretty).
