Whether it’s a gift to celebrate a milestone birthday, a wedding or a housewarming—this piece is an instant heirloom.

The symbolism of the Cleary coat of arms

Formally blazoned in historical registers as "Or, three nettle leaves vert," the registered Cleary arms feature powerful, natural symbolism:

The Gold Shield (Or): Officially symbolizes generosity, elevation of the mind, and the royal lineage tracing back to King Guaire.

The Three Green Nettle Leaves (Vert): In Gaelic heraldry, nettle leaves signify sharp intellect, resilience, and defensive strength—representing a family capable of guarding its heritage through changing centuries.

The Trio Alignment: Arranged in traditional heraldic balance, three charges represent spiritual harmony, completeness, and enduring strength.

The Motto (Fortitudo): Declares "Strength" or "Fortitude"—a testament to the moral courage and intellectual endurance of the Ó Cléirigh lineage.

Historical figures

Mícheál Ó Cléirigh (c. 1590–1643): A 17th-century Franciscan friar and chief compiler of the monumental Annals of the Four Masters, he spent years on foot across Ireland rescuing ancient manuscripts to preserve centuries of Gaelic history.

Lughaidh Ó Cléirigh (fl. 1595–1630): Chief of the Ó Cléirigh sept and official historian to the O'Donnell clan, he authored The Life of Red Hugh O'Donnell, one of the most significant surviving Gaelic biographies of the late medieval era.

Bridget Cleary (1869–1895): An independent Tipperary dressmaker whose tragic 1895 story made international headlines, securing her place as one of the most famous and enduring women in modern Irish social history and folklore.
