Clear is an Anglicized variant of the ancient Gaelic surname Ó Cléirigh (historically related to Cleary, Clery, and Clark), meaning "descendant of the clerk or scribe." The Ó Cléirigh lineage represents one of the oldest recorded surnames in all of Europe, originating in County Galway before expanding into Mayo, Donegal, and Kilkenny.
