The origin of the name Cervantes

Cervantes is an ancient Spanish noble surname originating from the manorial town of Cervantes in Lugo, Galicia. Derived from the Spanish ciervo (stag or deer), the name was first assumed by feudal knights during the 10th century. Moving southward during the Reconquista, the noble Cervantes family established major seats in Toledo, Seville, and Castile, contributing leading scholars, military commanders, and literary figures to Spanish heritage.

The symbolism of the Cervantes coat of arms

Visually graceful and dignified, the Cervantes coat of arms features a deep blue shield charged with two golden stags (harts) walking in vertical alignment.
