The origin of the name Cassidy
Cassidy is an ancient Gaelic Irish surname derived from Ó Caiside, stemming from cas, meaning "curly-haired." Originating in County Fermanagh in Ulster, the Cassidy sept held high hereditary distinction for centuries as chief medical doctors (ollamhs in medicine) and scholars to the ruling Maguire princes of Fermanagh. Renowned for their learning and medical wisdom, the Cassidys were recorded throughout medieval Irish history, appearing in the Annals of Ulster and the 1659 Census of Ireland.
