The origin of the name Cabrera

Cabrera is an ancient Spanish and Catalan habitational surname derived from the Latin capraria, meaning "place of goats" or "goat mountain." Originating in the kingdom of Catalonia and Galicia during the Middle Ages, the noble Cabrera family held the feudal Viscountcy of Cabrera and played distinguished roles in Spanish royal governance and military campaigns across Aragon, Sicily, and the Americas. The name appears in early Iberian armorial registers and 13th-century royal charters.
