The origin of the name Becker

Becker is an ancient Germanic occupational and topographic surname with deep roots across Westphalia, Bavaria, Prussia, and the Rhineland. Derived from the Middle High German becker (meaning baker) or topographically from beck (meaning a stream or brook), the name originally identified either a master baker of the feudal manor or one who resided beside a flowing watercourse. Codified in early Holy Roman Empire civic charters and guild registers, the surname appears in 13th-century records across Strasbourg, Cologne, and Frankfurt.

The symbolism of the Becker coat of arms

Striking and courageous, the Becker coat of arms displays a silver wild goat (or ibex) rampant set upon a black shield. In heraldry, the black shield denotes wisdom, constancy, and dignity, while the wild goat is a traditional emblem of persistent ambition, agility, and fearless determination in reaching high places. Positioned above the helm, the crest features a noble crown issuing black and white feather plumes. This armorial design is documented in Johann Siebmacher's Grosses und allgemeines Wappenbuch (1605) and J.B. Rietstap’s Armorial Général.
