The origin of the name Austin

Austin is a distinguished surname of patronymic origin, deriving from the medieval given name Augustine (from the Latin Augustus, meaning "venerable," "exalted," or "magnificent"). Popularized throughout Europe following the 12th-century spread of Augustinian monastic orders, early family branches established manorial seats across Kent, Bedfordshire, and Cornwall. Historical records document Jeffrey Austin in the 1275 Hundred Rolls of Sussex.

The symbolism of the Austin coat of arms

The coat of arms displays an or (gold) field crossed by a bold gules (red) chevron, set between three sable (black) bear's paws erased. In heraldry, or signifies elevation of mind and generosity, gules denotes warrior fortitude, and sable represents constancy and wisdom.

The red chevron symbolizes protective rafters and military fortification, while the bear's paws embody ferocious strength, courage, and fierce defense of kin.
