The origin of the name Andrews
Andrews is a classic surname of patronymic origin meaning "Son of Andrew." Derived from the Greek Andreas (meaning "manly," "courageous," or "valiant"), the name became exceptionally popular across Britain and Ireland following the medieval Crusades in honor of Saint Andrew. Early family branches established manorial seats in Hampshire, Northamptonshire, and Scotland.
The symbolism of the Andrews coat of arms
The coat of arms features a gules (red) shield charged with a prominent vert (green) saltire (St. Andrew's cross) fimbriated in or (gold). In heraldry, gules represents warrior fortitude, vert signifies hope and vitality, and or denotes honor and elevation of mind.
The central saltire represents faith, resolve, and steadfast protection, while the gold fimbriation emphasizes noble standing.
The golden ribbon below the shield bears the Latin motto Victrix fortuna sapientia ("Wisdom is the conqueror of fortune"). Cataloged in Burke’s General Armory.
