Alvarez is a historic patronymic surname meaning "Son of Álvaro." Derived from the Visigothic name Alwar (composed of all, meaning "all," and war, meaning "wise" or "guardian"), the lineage originated in northern Spain, particularly in Asturias and León. The family established principal houses across Castile and Andalusia and produced numerous commanders, diplomats, and scholars.
