The origin of the name Alonso
Alonso is a distinguished surname of Spanish patronymic origin, deriving from the ancient Germanic name Adalfuns (composed of adal, meaning "noble," and funs, meaning "ready" or "eager"). Widely established across Castile, Asturias, and Galicia following the Reconquista, early family leaders held ancestral seats in Burgos and Valladolid, playing prominent roles in Iberian government, exploration, and military command.
The symbolism of the Alonso coat of arms
The coat of arms displays an argent (silver) shield charged with a bold gules (red) lion rampant, enclosed within an or (gold) border adorned with eight red crosses couped.
