The origin of the name Alonso

Alonso is a distinguished surname of Spanish patronymic origin, deriving from the ancient Germanic name Adalfuns (composed of adal, meaning "noble," and funs, meaning "ready" or "eager"). Widely established across Castile, Asturias, and Galicia following the Reconquista, early family leaders held ancestral seats in Burgos and Valladolid, playing prominent roles in Iberian government, exploration, and military command.
