About
Staying true to original designs, often hundreds of years old, heraldic artist Éamonn Breathnach has infused these ancient treasures with a new lease of life.
Each family crest has been meticulously researched and is derived from the earliest available records sourced from a variety of heraldic archives. Archives include The National Library of ireland, Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Britain and Ireland, British Crests by Alexander Deuchar, Historical Illustrations by Bernard Burke (Burke's Peerage) and Enciclopedia Heráldica Hispano-Americana by Alberto and Arturo García Carraffa, and also several online sources.
Each crest in the Family Crests Store is based on a historically recorded coat of arms associated with the surname. In traditional heraldry, coats of arms were granted to individuals rather than entire families. Over time, these designs have become widely linked with particular surnames and regions, offering a connection to the history and symbolism of the name. While not every bearer of a surname is directly descended from the original armiger, these designs provide a meaningful and visually authentic link to the heritage of the name.
Noted for their elegance and attention to detail, Éamonn's art works are perfect as gifts for any occasion with family and friends such as weddings and family get-togethers.
